Alternative paradigm vs. traditional paradigm

Abstract

Alternative and traditional approaches have been described in this study. Definitions of the paradigm concept or worldview have been presented in this research along with discussions of the related notions of paradigm shift and their importance for social workers. Traditional or dominant paradigms and alternative or possible paradigms have been described separately. Alternative and Traditional paradigms for behavior of human are often not necessarily mutually exclusive.Table of contents

Introduction

Paradigm

Originally, paradigm was a word referring to an accepted model or pattern. In The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, Thomas Kuhn gave this word a new meaning, using it to represent the set of practices that constitutes the core of a scientific discipline and serves as a model to show how a scientific community should conduct its research.

In Structure, Kuhn defined a paradigm simply as a group of exemplary problem solutions universally accepted by the members of a scientific community (Brad Wray, 2012). According to Kuhn, what constitute a paradigm are not abstract theories, but concrete applications of the theories for solutions of typical problem. Paradigm can provide new ways of understanding behaviors in humans such as in individuals, organization, family, community or group and global context. The paradigm concept can serve us well to increase and order awareness of models, multiple theories and perspective about social environment and human behavior. The paradigm includes two types traditional and alternative.

HBSE (Human behavior and social environment)

It is also known as Human behavior and social environment. The purpose of HBSE is to provide us with knowledge for practice. It provides the knowledge about the human behavior; the ways social systems deter or promote individuals in achieving or maintaining well being and health. Also apply knowledge and theories about the social, cultural, psychological, biological and spiritual development. It also includes the interaction of the systems among or with one another in larger socio cultural environments (Schriver. J, 2003.

Discussion

Paradigm Shifts

Kuhn called research conducted within the framework defined by a paradigm normal science. Routine research activities during normal science include gathering facts, matching facts with theories, and articulating theories. The aim of research in this stage is not to produce major novelties, but to solve puzzles. Scientists are confident that the paradigm can offer them all the necessary tools to solve puzzles, and they usually blame themselves rather than the paradigm when they encounter anomalies, that is, puzzles that have resisted solutions.

Two Types of Paradigms: Traditional and Alternative

Two not mutually exclusive different types of paradigm include the following:

Alternative or possible paradigms refers to as world views that have been less prominent and had less influence and in shaping our own and others' views about a person and their environments. Alternative approaches see the parties involved as interconnected partners in a mutual and emergent process (Barutta et al, 2010).
