Introduction

For many ages, the progress of the understanding of nursing has been affected by various theories. Over the course of time, these theories have guided nursing practice, research, and education just as they do today. Even though the very essence of nursing demands these tenets to be followed devotedly and religiously, I believe that all nurses can be motivated and educated to get involved in the caring process. It is only rational if I assume that all nurses who enter this noble profession are motivated to do so due to some key beliefs and values that they possess. These values and beliefs are what eventually guide them in formulating their own description of nursing and defining their primary goal. Many of these values and beliefs that they hold are notably obvious throughout the countless nursing theories existing. This does not suggest that nurses today cannot think beyond the limits of these theories.

The workload and responsibilities on nurses have increased since the intensification of healthcare systems globally. Nurses not have to deal with complex issues in the absence of a medical practitioner. Despite the hard work, nurses must have to take adequate care of their patient's psychological and physical health. The primary objective of nurses is to provide caring services to their patients. The clinical applications of the essential elements of Jean Watson's caring theory are widely applied in healthcare facilities “Caring science promotes an interpersonal relationship based on respect, mutual learning, and giving and taking” (Noel & Dianne, 2010). The caring theory sets benchmarks for nurses to perform their duties wisely and with care. Caring is the identity of nursing without which, there will be no point of having nurses. This theory brings a value that nursing is not a job; rather, it is a gratifying profession. Promoting these values will have an essential impact on the health of patients (Lachman, 2012).

The caring theory works by setting benchmarks for nurses so that they perform their duties carefully as well as devotedly. In fact, caring is what characterizes nurses since without care there will be little point of being a nurse. This theory propagates that nursing is a gratifying profession and not a job. Promoting these values will have an essential impact on the health of patients.

This paper outlines my personal view of the noble profession of nursing and all the queries that are generally linked to it. I will survey and relate my values and beliefs and explain why I think they are significant. I will also reflect on the thought of whether or not my view of nursing can affect nurses in a positive way.

My Beliefs and Values
