Accuracies and Inaccuracies of Science in “The Core” Movie
Introduction
The Core is an American science fiction film of 2003. The film is loosely based on the science-fiction novel Core by Paul Preuss. The story tells how a team has to travel to the center of the Earth and begin a series of nuclear explosions to restore the rotation of the Earth's core. The film directed by Jon Amiel; starring Aaron Eckhart, Delroy Lindo, Hilary Swank, Stanley Tucci and DJ Qualls. This study is going to discuss accuracies and inaccuracies of science in the movie.
Accuracies in The core
The earth has cores, and it is in the state of motion
The earth's interior structure divided into a separate layer like the outer layer, refereed as the inner core. The film core discussed the inner most part of the earth which is according to scientists the inner core is 88% composed of iron (Moon, pp. 15-78). The core of the earth is in perpetual motion. The movie also discussed the scientific fact that the earth's core has stopped for unknown reasons, later discovered as a result of a secrete weapon to cause earthquakes. Most of the facts discussed in the movie about the core like its composition, how does it works was to a larger extent proven based on the proven facts. The inner core has the properties of a solid, whereas the outer core prevents the passage of S waves, suggesting that it is a liquid. It composed of a mixture of iron and nickel together with some dissolved silicon and sulfur, and separated from the mantle above at a depth of 2900 km beneath the Earth's surface, by the Gutenberg discontinuity this fact has been kept in the movie.
