From research it is evident that the figures released by these organizations on crime statistics vary greatly with their findings. Mostly, the figures used within these organizations is to calculate their own performance in handling the crime; however they are used in political issues and news discussions debating the society we live in. Sociologists disprove the authenticity of crime statistics because they do not include a complete record of those criminal offences which are known to the authorities. Sociologists are very critical of criminal figures; they argue that these statistics are unreliable and inadequate sources of evidence about the scope and nature of crime and the social characteristics of criminals. Many of the criminal activities go undiscovered, unrecorded, and unreported, as according to research, in 2008-09 the crimes that were reported to the police and recorded by them consist of only about quarter which were detected or cleared-up by identifying an offender and taking action against them. This indicates that those incidents that are appearing in official statistics are unrepresentative sample of officially classified criminals who happens to have caught, and there is no reliable evidence about who are committing the majority of the crimes (Browne, 2011).
