Abbie Hoffman

Abbie Hoffman, a U.S. left-wing political activist, founder of the Yippies (Youth International Party), a political offshoot of the hippies. He was a member of the Chicago Seven, a radical group tried for attempting to disrupt the 1968 Democratic Convention (Jack, pp 98).

It is known among other things to be one of the founders of International Youth Party Yippies (Youth International Party), then to have lived as a fugitive, to have made the traffic of cocaine. Even now, remains a symbol of rebellion and revolutionary current which stimulated a part of American youth.

Hoffman was born into Jewish in the city of Worcester in Massachusetts. He graduated in 1959 at Brandeis University, where he studies Herbert Marcuse, a philosopher of the Left. Sheila Karklin home in 1960 and has two children with her. Divorced in 1966, then home again to Anita Kushner, with which only has one child. Before committing to the Yippie movement, Hoffman also was active in the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (student's pacifists). Also organizes the Liberty Fund, which sells goods to support the movement of civil rights in South America.

During the Vietnam War, he often used humor and comedy events. For example, try to levitate the Pentagon using energy psychic. In the movement against the War Vietnam, Abbie was very aware of the militarization of American society, as well as the power of the media. Both the media used to ridicule the spirit military and the military including street theater Jero, outbursts in public, and on one occasion rites of exorcism on the Pentagon building.
