Political parties have a huge influence on the government system of any country. A political party may be defined as a group of people believing the same ideas about how the country should be governed; they usually introduce new laws or ideas instead of the existing ones. Each political party has an individual policy that it promotes. These parties have a candidate who tries to win a seat in the political office. In the US there are two dominant parties, the Democratic Party is one of the oldest contemporary political party found on the anti slavery protests that supports social liberal, social democratic and progressive platforms. Our current president Barack Obama is the 15th democrat to hold the office. The other dominant political party is the Republican Party that strictly represents the conservatism in the US; strongly represent the traditions, Christian religion. The Republican Party opposes abortions and same sex marriages President George W. Bush was a Republican (Eldersveld & Walton 2000).
Brief overview of the history of Political parties
George Washington was the first president back then the state legislature chose the president instead of votes. President Washington was from the Anti Federalist party that supported the constitution. The opposition party was the Federal party that began in 1970 when Hamilton broached a scheme for the supposition of the state debts by the government. In 1791 he proposed the establishment of the national bank. Later on this Party changed its name as Republican (Aldrich, 1995).
The benefits of political parties
Parties have a significant role in appealing and actuating the voters in the political procedure. There are two major reasons why a person becomes dynamic in politics: Firstly because they receive something in return for their dynamism it could be anything financial, purposeful or social. The second reason why we need parties is because the Party has the capability to participate.
Political parties are the only intermediary between the voting citizens and the elected bodies. Another benefit of political parties is that it there will be equal and fair representation, everybody has a different view and political parties give those people's ideas a voice. However there are still people who do not support either existing parties it's an issue for such people since they do not have a voice. The two ways party system has long been outdated since many minorities are not effectively represented, also having only two major options to choose from is not at all favorable. Many countries have more than two political parties. That's where Third parties come in. A Third party means a separate party from the two dominant ones. Third parties fail to have much influence and chances are they most likely won't be elected. Third parties are built around a certain belief or ideology (Aldrich, 1995).
