Introduction

The term victim compensation means payments that are made to the victims of crime by the government. This term is different from restitution in which payments are involved in the form of service or money made by the offender by the victim of the crime. For certain offenders, restitution have been recommended. Victim compensation can be assumed as a significant way to express losses that result from criminal victimization. Compensation program in each state is administered independently. Among those, most of the programs have same eligibility criteria and they provide similar benefits. Compensation is paid only in those cases when other financial resources like offender restitution and private insurance do not show their involvement to cover the losses. There are some of the losses that are not covered by most of the compensation programs such as property loss, damage and theft. In order to compensate victims in terrorism cases, State compensation programs are not required (National Association of Crime Victim Compensation Boards, 2012).

In order to receive compensation, it is necessarily required by the victims to comply state rules and regulations in which victims are generally required for cooperating with suitable requests of law enforcement and timely submit an application to the compensation program. For compensating crime victims, efforts are stated by VOCA funds supplement. Victims of violent crime may suffer from financial stress ad this may turn out to be very devastating an impact on the victim's health. It may hurt like emotional trauma and physical injuries. For a wide variety of crime-related expenses, on behalf of a crime victim crime victim compensation is a direct reimbursement. Crime related expenses involve expenses for mental health counseling, loss of support, lost wages, funeral and burial costs and other medical costs. It is a fact that no amount of money can replace the miserable sufferings of the victims but, it is believed that compensation can at least help the sufferers to get recovered with their pain. It also plays a vital role in helping them to fulfill their physical, financial and emotional needs. The main goal of compensation program is to lessen the financial burden that is experienced by victims of violent crime in a respectful and sensitive way. This program is designed on the basis of the needs of the sufferers. It helps the victims to solve their cost related concerns caused due to the violent crime. Financial compensation to the victims is provided by this program or expenses like funereal cost and medical bills.
