A Comparison: Across the Mona Strait and We Toil All the Livelong Day.
Introduction
The women of Caribbean have faced enormous difficulties and challenges throughout history. From being subjects of violence, hatred and abuse, they have evolved over the years. A close analysis of the events tell us how Caribbean women have managed to surpass the worst times and still continue to do so despite the hurdles (Hillman et. al, 2003).
The life of Caribbean women hasn't been a fairy tale and has been filled with ups and downs. Many writers have brought up the issues regarding women in the Caribbean, but none have managed to do so better than in “We Toil the Livelong Day” and “Across the Mona Strait”. Both authors; attempt to look into the lives of Caribbean women and suggest ways for their improvement.

The Caribbean culture is very rich and is known all over the world. It is filled with literary, artistic and social elements that continue to intrigue not just the native people, but people from all over the world. With time, the different elements of the culture have evolved and many other cultures have been mixed with pure Caribbean culture. It has given the culture a distinct flavor and has managed to diversify it. Many aspects and inspirations from the Caribbean culture are evident in the United States and other countries (Kurlansky, 1992).
