Goal 6, Combat HIV / AIDS, malaria and other diseases are the primary focus of my interest. UNDP works to prevent the spread of HIV / AIDS and reducing its impact. As a development partner and established itself as a cosponsor of UNAIDS, UNDP helps countries put HIV / AIDS to the national development strategies and national strategies for poverty reduction.
As a result of support from the International Development Association (IDA), the World Bank fund for the poorest countries, 2 million adults and children with HIV received antiretroviral combination therapy and acquired and / or distributed 33 million bed nets malaria between 2000 and 2010. Additionally, the Bank launched the Booster Program for Malaria Control in 2005 as a 10-year effort aimed at increasing the financial and technical support for programs to control this condition.
I wish to attend the Youth Assembly, because the Millennium Development is a difficult but achievable vision that aim the dramatic reduction of poverty in all its forms and this will have tremendous benefits for the world. It is noted that if the MDGs are achieved, more than 500 million people will escape the scourge of poverty and tens of millions of lives will be saved, the improvements will mainly found in Africa. If targets are achieved, millions of children will have the opportunity to go to school. Other benefits can be quantified by a simple extrapolation of the facts that, the effect of reversing the environmental degradation will be that hundreds of millions of women and girls will live in freedom, in greater safety, with more opportunity, if the MDGs are achieved. Behind these achievements are indeed the life and hopes of all those who aspire to be able to finally escape the burden of extreme poverty. By attending youth assembly I have an opportunity to understand the policies and objectives of Millennium Development Goals. By attending this conference I can effectively spread awareness regarding the objective of Millennium Development in my home country Nigeria. As Nigeria is a poor country, so the accomplishment of Millennium Development Goals is very necessary for the people of Nigeria.
