Introduction

In the current economic situation, it is important for Americans to be ready for tough measures to be taken by the government, in order to try and revitalize the economy which has still not been able to recover from the financial crisis. Hence, it is important that the budget is cut down by $ 1 trillion, for which this paper will look to outline the programs which need cuts, and those which should be persisted with.

If only the inhabitants of this world were self sufficient in every regard and did not need any assistance from anyone, for their better living and existence, the dynamics and the connotations attached to the concept of community would have found an entirely different meaning. On a national level, the same gestures takes form of numerous public or welfare programs that are initiated by the government for allowing their public to seek some refuge in their offerings, from the hardships that await them in the outer world.

Welfare or Other Programs Currently Running

America relishes the status of one of the most developed countries of the world, but even then, there is a considerable population that requires assistance with the basic necessities of life, let it be employment, health, education, monetary assistance or other factors. Therefore, in order to help such population, the government of America has always embroiled itself in numerous public and welfare programs that will be beneficial for their population. In the current time, the existing programs can be seen as general welfare payments, state housing, healthcare or Medicaid, relief for young mothers and pregnant women, special programs for poor families, programs for subsidized education, disability insurance, unemployment insurance, pensions, food stamps, child care assistance, social security programs, retirement programs, and other relative programs (Tyrone, 2010).

Essential Programs and Redundant Programs

If a person is on the receiving end, then nothing to him seems redundant or trivial. There lies no doubt about the fact the it is rather tough to grade a few programs to be essential and other programs to be redundant or unnecessary, as each and every program, in one way or another plays a pivotal role of serving the public. The only factor, on which such a distinction can be based, relies on the severity of the necessity of those programs. For instance, there are some programs that are extremely essential for the welfare and better living of the general public, and their abolishment or reduction in performance (via the reduction in financing of that program) will have a dire impact on its target population; however, at the same time, there are a few programs which are equally essential but their abolishment or reduction in their efforts will not have such a dire or negative effects.
