“Your So-Called Education” from the New York Times of May 14, 2011.

Introduction

This article is the written opinion about the nature of educational level and expertise in the field of education, in the New York City. Richard Arum, a sociology professor and educationalist of New York University narrated in their research that the majority of the students are following the entrances in the university without any research work and stating that they are very much satisfied with the knowledge they are gaining. The article states the facts regarding the quality of the poor learning of the undergraduates entering to the fields of master's studies.

According to personal observations, the lack of critical thinking, reasoning response, responsibility and weak writing skills are not only the character issues of students but also of teachers who do not respond to the promotion of these capabilities in generation. Everyone wants an easy way out. Students (in order t pay the fee for the next semester), work to make their both ends meet, due to this reason they are not able to give proper attention to the subject of interest. There basic motive at that point in time is to pay the fee, to get a degree.

Further, there can be issues when students pay for the generation of assignments or usually bunk the assignment for the sake of few marks to pass with mediocre grades. These capabilities lead students towards the negative, cognitive growth of students. Funds provisions to students have strict regulations, which pose hindrance to the educational status. Students who are brilliant enough to outshine the educational fields have to face the consequences of the financial or social hindrance.

Therefore, the So-called Educational system of New York gets made for the people of riches and not for the people of education. Hence, the problem is obvious for the lack of critical thinking, reasoning response, responsibility and weak writing skills in students.
