Our country is considered the "inventor" of fresh water, and the habit of accompanying the food with them, is one of the most entrenched eating habits in Americans. Have any of you ever thought about this why this issue has gained so much of importance? Do anyone of you know the adverse affects of soda and soft drinks? After the health effects of soft drinks, soda drinks have gained considerable importance. Most of the people among us do know the benefits of drinking water but they hardly leave the habit of taking soda and soft drinks with their meal.

In recent times, the World Health Organization has been actively involved in restricting the advertising and sale of soda and soft drinks. They are forced to take such steps considering the fact of increasing rate of obese and diabetic issues (WHO, pp.6-10). Most of us need to accompany meals with liquid, but other than plain water. The disadvantage is that, as we have no time to prepare lemonades, sodas came to meet with them, because they meet the requirement of a different flavor and ready to drink anytime, anywhere. We know all makes, presentations, flavors and varieties out there, but very few know about its content and effects on the body. Carbonated soft drinks are acidic and have a pH of 2.5. It has been estimated that for the body to return to neutral (pH 7) after consuming a soda can of 355 ml, required 29 vessels of 240 ml of natural water, bone 7 liters. To accomplish this, our body reduces the amount of oxygen, thus making metabolism slower. When we consume soft drinks containing phosphoric acid, the body makes an effort to reduce acid levels in the urine, and that forces a person to use some of its water to push them out. The more soft drinks consumed, the more we have to pee to reduce accumulated acid, causing cellular dehydration.

The consumption of soda drinks has been increased but the fact is that these types of drinks do not contain any essential nutrient or vitamin. Instead these drinks are filled with preservatives, caffeine, sugar (sometimes sweeteners) and carbonates.
