Introduction

Women were not treated equal to men for centuries. They had no independence in choosing their job or work. They were even not allowed to buy their own property and neither got their share from their parent's property. They were not even allowed to vote. Now when the dark days against the women are over we must still fight and ensure that women all around the world get their rights. Women should be given equal rights to men without being gender biased. The term gender equality can be explained as a concept in which all humans including men and women are independent to make choices for themselves without any limitations. The different needs and goals of men and women should be favored, valued and considered equally.

Empowerment can be defined as a procedure of development of an individual. So, that they can shape their lives and bring a positive change in their economical and social conditions. The implementation of gender equality and women empowerment is known as gender mainstreaming. It is mainly concerned with the improvement, organization, development, planning, and evaluation of all the policies so that gender equality is implemented at all the levels. Women empowerment and reconstructing masculinity helps in maintaining a balance between masculine and feminine role in the society. Women empowerment helps women to be independent economically and politically.

Women empowerment is dependent on many different variables which include age, class, caste, social status, geographical location and educational status. These factors are usually applicable in the third world countries. Women empowerment can be implemented in different sectors which include political sector, social sector, cultural sector and economical sector.

Most of these gender inequality issues arise due to certain cultural practices, which need to be eradicated. Gender inequality can also be seen in different areas. Certain cultures mostly the cultures of the third world countries are male dominated where gender in equality is seen in all the areas of society. Gender equality is amongst the basic human rights. Women should be given equal rights to live with dignity and freedom. Women empowerment helps in increasing economic and social development.

Women empowerment also helps women to contribute towards the health and productivity of their family. Discrimination against women is seen almost everywhere. Gender inequality is amongst the most common practices worldwide. Women living in third world countries face the most gender biased behavior in all walks of life. They usually have less access to health care facilities than men. They are considered more politically inactive than men. The third world countries face a lot of problems related to gender inequality which results in women becoming the victims of domestic violence. More women must be educated about women empowerment so that they can also be empowered and help in contributing the society. Women empowerment should not be limited to a particular field.
