Question 1

The company management must have helped create a more equal environment for gender and race. Today a lot companies ignore the gender & racial issues. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in the year 2000, only 54 of the 355 investigated cases were found to have been discriminatory. In comparison to 2006, where out of 436 cases investigated, 100 of them were considered to be discriminatory. The numbers are a bit misleading though. There is actually a 2.21 percent drop in the number of cases found to be discriminatory. Affirmative action was the first measure to prevent employers from giving jobs out to someone less qualified to avoid hiring someone that isn't white. This executive order gave new opportunities for people of color or race to gain access to better jobs, promotions, and wages.

When women are multiply interpolated they experience domination and subordination. They are discriminated for one, being a woman, and also discriminated by what race they are. All women are multiply interpolated because of their gender and all women are oppressed, minority women are oppressed more than others. Minority women are oppressed in ways other than their gender. They can be oppressed as women, for what race they are, culture, sexuality, class, abilism, etc.

A huge factor in why minority women are oppressed is due to what race they are. If women are of a race other than white they are normally seen as minority women. Minority women are oppressed from different directions by the dominant society which are white men and white women. Each minority group of women are also faced with similar and different oppressions. One race in particular that is multiply interpolated are African Americans. African Americans are seen as the largest minority group. African American women were first seen as slaves to the white men and their families.

It can eb depicted from the article that african women were brought to the United States to work, to produce, and to reproduce. Women are often known as housewives who stay at home to clean, cook, and take care of their children. African American women have never been able to classify themselves as housewives because as slaves they were taking care of their master and his family. When African American women were slaves they were required to have children, often times through forced breeding and would then go back to their normal work. It is idle dreaming to think of black women simply caring for their homes and children like the middle class white model. Most black women have to work to help house, feed and clothe their families. Due to that, African American women make up a substantial percentage of the black working force. (Sugiman and Nishio 2003)

As we discover these differences by conducting technical studies of the sort that will be reported over the next three days, let's also recognize that these are derived from larger social constructs associated with the concept of ...
