White Privilege and Male Privilege

Introduction

Human history is evidence of discrimination is societies, where one class, or one ethnic group, or a sex, has enjoyed privileges over another class, race, or gender. These differences were very much skewed in favor of whites and males during ancient times and remained similar during colonial era. In many societies women were given secondary roles till mid twentieth century.

These discriminated privileges have resulted in civil wars, movements by women, and many other issues, which have been dealt in national and international law agencies. Even today, we have many societies, which are operated by majority groups and men. We live in a world, where whites and men enjoy more benefits and immunities then minorities and women.

White Privilege

Whit Privilege can be defined as immunity in terms of an advantage, favor, or benefit provided to white men over black men. It can be a right given to European white descent (McIntosh, pp.78).

In social context, white privilege can mean as following:

Immunity, advantage or right enjoyed by people of white descent, and these rights and privileges are greater than the average rights provided to overall society.

It can also be a benefit or advantage in terms of social relations, genetic endowments, gifts of fortune, natural advantages, divine dispensations, etc.

It can be a beneficial position; advantage enjoyed by white people due to their decent.

It can also mean immunity or special right attached with white people as a social relation

White people displaying their privilege by demanding a special treatment of a specially benefited class

Unusual honorable distinctions held by white people

Authorization of special license to white people, which are not allowed to others
