The purpose of this discussion is to look at the merits and demerits of standardized assessments of English as a second language. The assessment is a test for both the students and the teachers as each student has a different cultural and linguistic background. The No Child Left Behind Act requires these students to have English in important tests. These tests might test them on concepts that they are not familiar with due to their background differences. English language learners face many challenges with the current evaluation methods.
