Introduction

In the scenario, currently acknowledged a 42-year-old male has been reported to hold up his wife, son, and a family friend as hostages. This seemed a bizarre situation as the hostage seeker has kept his family under custody which means that mental state of hostage seeker cannot be declared as normal. There are several factors and influences causing such type of situations. Nonetheless, in majority of the cases, the psychological state of the hostage seeker is considered to encounter several anomalies. It was also reported in the scenario that the person who has kept hostages in his custody already killed his next-door neighbor due to unspecified reasons prescribed in the scenario.

According to the hostage seeker, if his demands are not fulfilled, he will kill rest of the hostages kept in custody. According to the facts extracted from the scenario, the demands enlightened by the hostage seeker were specifically referring to immunity from the murder charge. The hostage seeker assures that he will surrender without harming anybody if his demand for immunity is fulfilled. In addition, his second demand refers to a case of beer and some fast food that must be delivered to the house as soon as possible.

Type of Incident

There are different types of incidents in which hostage seeking incidents are acknowledged. In some cases, the criminals use hostages to escape the crime scene. However, in other situations, if the criminals are trapped in the crime scene especially when they are caught during a robbery then they seek hostages as their escape route. The third type of hostage incident acknowledged is usually experienced in prisons where the prisoners keep other prisoners as hostages and demand better food and increase in number of visit along with conjugal. Another scenario acknowledged in this respect involves normal people that are influenced by excessive stress. These scenarios are often involved in case of divorces where parents keep their children as hostages in order to taken parental custody. Nonetheless, in other scenarios, the hostage situation can be political where terrorists keep hostages in order to seek revenge or for their demand fulfillment.

This scenario is a bit different then other type of scenarios. This scenario resembles to the phenomenon in which a psychotic person take control over hostage situation by keeping his family members as hostages against their will. This scenario involves delusional thinking of the hostage seeker who considers the hostage situation as a mission and what he does is perceived as right. In these types of situations, the hostage seeker usually is depressed individuals and is influenced upon several internal and external factors. These factors can cause behavioral and psychological anomalies due to which person keep its family members as hostages against his useless demands to be fulfilled.
