To What Extent is Media Violence Related to Aggressive and Violent Behavior
Introduction
The aim of this research paper is to discuss that to what extent is media violence related to aggressive and violent behavior. One aspect that has generated much interest among psychologists in recent decades has to do with the influence of media on human behavior. The violence portrayed in the media is more influential in terms of various conditions of aggressive players and the consequences of the action, considering that children are especially vulnerable to violence vision. In fact, most of the researchers agree that development of behavior in children is based on the information provided through any television programs, movies, or video games. Today, children regularly watch television and receive violence every day in new form. Increasing exposure of violence, drugs, death, or killings also cause loss of children's innocence. It would be fair to say that innocence of children is replaced by a conflicting behavior of violence by watching mature and violent content on television (Kirsh, 2006).
In all forms, media violence plays a large role, whether by television reports, movies, the internet, newspapers, etc. The media is ubiquitous in our lives; young people are more and more contact with violent images. One might think that these images have a direct impact on the behavior of young people because they are in full discovery of their ways so they are more impressionable.
Discussion and Analysis
It is very common in every house that children watch movies or TV programs and play video games that contain violence and other contents that children should not be exposed to during a certain age. Most of the programs are produced to provide entertainment but the element of violence is also very obvious in these television programs, movies and video games. In fact, it would not be wrong to say that such media presentations do not deliver any productive message rather contribute significantly in developing violent behavior and reducing their attention span. In addition, the role of media cannot be denied in the formulation of ideologies and opinion about any particular thing or subject. However, the exposure of deaths, weapons, murders, sex, and drugs is a major cause of the development of negative attitude or behavior and attention deficit among children.
The issue of media violence and the debate of the extent of the effects will continue into the future. An increase in the number of highly publicized shootings in recent years has ensured that the issue of media violence will have a place in the public mind for some time. Many people feel that larger social problems are at the root of these crimes and that blaming things like media violence and a lack of firearm regulations without addressing these larger social problems is a mistake. The media are just one variable in a larger social problem. Television has been the subject of study and concern for a ...
