ABSTRACT

In this dissertation the research study conducted has been established to determine the social and economic impact of excessive multiplayer PC games on students. The virtual and gaming industry has evolved rapidly in the recent years and this development is due to the radical shifts in the technology. The advancement of technology has improved the games incredible and has made them much more attractive for all the game lovers. No doubt there is an age for multiplayer PC gaming. The target market of the gaming industry is all those people who love to seek entertainment by playing multiplayer PC games in their leisure time. It is good if multiplayer PC games are accessed with the intention to seek entertainment. But recently there has been a radical shift in the frequency of multiplayer PC games among students. The increased gaming among students is posing serious social and economic impact. One of the most significant social impacts of extensive multiplayer PC games is that it has isolated students involved to PC games only. A prominent reduction in the family involvement has been evidenced with the increase in multiplayer PC games. Similarly the most threatening economic impact due to extensive multiplayer PC games is that often students used to go in debt to fulfill their desire of gaming. Additionally, there are serious aspects of extensive gamin. However, all these impact can be undermined if the situation is handled tactically. The most effective way to evade the negative aspects of extensive gaming can be established through effective counseling and alternative entertaining activities for the students to make them understand where this addiction of gaming is going to take them. Multiplayer PC games are considered good till the point where they are a source of entertainment, socialization and learning the worries start when it became an addiction.
