Abstract

This paper aims at undertaking the role of head of the IT management effort at Magnum Enterprises. In first section of the paper, the personal statement highlighting roles in integrating software, hardware and management capabilities are discussed. The middle section of the paper includes the challenges that I would be encountering as head of the IT management. The final section of the paper will include the efforts that I and my team would undertake to make Magnum a better organization.

The Role of IT Managers in Organizations

Introduction

The Chief Information Officer of Magnum Enterprises has assigned me to play the leading IT management role in the organization. I would be supervising six people of IT management group. In this paper, the role I would be playing as head of the IT management effort at Magnum will be discussed. My role in terms of integrating software, hardware and business management capabilities will also be discussed. Moreover, the anticipated challenges as head of IT management and the efforts I and my team would put to make Magnum a better organization will also be included.

Discussion

IT management is the domain where all the technology resources of the company are managed in accordance with its needs and priorities. These resources include tangible investments like hardware, software, data and data center facilities as well as the employees who are hired to uphold them. Managing the responsibility in the domain of IT management includes many of the basic functions of management like controlling, organizing and budgeting along with other aspects that are unique to the IT like managing change, network planning, technical support and software design (McNurlin, 2009).

Personal Statement

The success or failure of IT management framework is dependent on the key stakeholders, decision makers, project managers, and other role players that carry out the necessary IT management activities. Being a head of the IT management effort at Magnum, I see me role as integrating the hardware, software and business management capabilities of Magnum. I would be managing the team of six employees and allowing them to take advantage of new business models and the changing business perspectives with respect to IT management efforts of Magnum. My role would be to balance the increasing costs and increasing value associated with IT, so that sufficient return from IT investments could be earned. I would be working on maintaining the Magnum's IT ability to build and maintain the knowledge that is essential to grow and sustain the business. Being a key player of IT management effort at Magnum, the main goal would be to continuously increase the proportion of IT investment accomplishment.
