The Main Factors That Make Steam Cell A Controversial Research Topic Among Modern Society

Abstract

The rationale of the paper is to explore the controversy behind the use of stem cells therapy to provide cure and treatment to patients suffering different illness and diseases. The paper will explore the factors that have contributed to the controversy and how they influence the overall therapy of stem cells in health and medical field and whether these factors suffice to prove that stem cells therapy is bioethical and immoral that should not be encouraged at any level. The paper suggests the development of policies to reduce the controversial issues related to research and development of therapy.

The Main Factors That Make Steam Cell A Controversial Research Topic Among Modern Society

Introduction

Stem cell controversy has become a bioethical debate for the past few decades. The debate began when the scientist first explored the miracles that could be done through stem cells in 1998. Embryonic stem cells were the basis of these controversial researches that stressed upon creation, treatment and destruction of human embryos by growing and differentiating these cells in the laboratory.

Stem cells have huge potential to cure different chronic diseases. Stem cells therapy is classified into two broad classes; embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells. Embryonic stem cells have led to controversial issue due to the moral implications of destroying human embryos. Scientist who was in favor of stem cells believed that the human embryo was not equivalent to life in the womb and therefore could be beneficial in saving many lives suffering from chronic diseases.

Discussion

Controversy Of Saving Human Life Through Stem Cells

In 1998 when the scientist first explored about the miracles of stem cells in the field of medicine and health, they became excited as to how the theory could be encouraged as therapy in treating patients with chronic diseases. This is the point where the therapy took the shape of bioethical debate. The development of the theory was considered to be advancement that could provide cure to people against odd diseases (Robertson, 2010).

Human embryos according to many opponents of the theory have tendency to develop into a human being, destroying or experimenting with it is next to killing and ending a life. Such an approach was considered unethical and immoral that could be used to save life and treat people suffering from diseases. Researchers who believed in the miracles of the theory explored said that human embryos were not equivalent to human life as it was present inside the womb and were leftovers from In Vitro-fertilizations and so they should be used for helping others (Murnaghan, 2013).

Embryonic Stem Cells

Stem cells that have a potential to convert themselves into any type of cell in the body contributes to the ability of the body to renew and repair the tissues. The cells can retain the ability to make a distinction into any of the three germ layers: endoderm, mesoderm and, and ectoderm (Hunt, 2008). Embryonic stems cells have generated controversies as it is ...
