The Life of O'laudah Equiano

Introduction

O'laudah Equiano was born in 1745 in Nigeria, he is also known as Gustavos Vassa. He is still considered as one of the legend in African history, which served as a slave and raised a voice against slavery in British history. The book written by him revealed the terrible and terrific realities of slavery and influenced British Lawmakers to eliminate the slave trade and initiate law against slave trade. Being a slave person in his early age, he paid forty pounds for his freedom to the king, and served as a sailor, and explorer in Caribbean, Arctic, the American Colonies, South America and the United Kingdom. Slaves existed in 17th century but they were continued to be captured and sold into slavery through the 18th century. One slave in particular experienced many changes throughout his life. O'laudah Equiano was one of them, who born on 1745 in guinea which is now Nigeria. Equiano and his sister were abducted by two men and a woman when he was 11 years old. They were separated during the slave trade in Barbados where he was shipped to Virginia. He worked in America and the West Indies, being sold to different masters along the way. Equiano rise in the world to earn wealth and to obtain his freedom. He was a slave for about 10 years. Equiano's good fortune led to his achievements and fame (Gary 19893, pp.38).
