The Effect of Treatment Centers on Drug and Alcohol Addiction

Introduction

The consumption of drugs and alcohol is one of the most widespread addictive disorders in the world. Addiction is not something that can easily be controlled because it is linked to the brain. The process of addiction begins when the substance is first used. The chemicals of the substances cause the brain to behave in a different way and create a sense of sensation, relaxation, and pleasure. These sensations do not last long and after they end, the brain creates an urge for the same substance since it can no longer live without the substance. Therefore, in order to give the brain the sensation it desires, the individual will have to continue the consumption of such substances on a regular basis (Stein, 2003). This increase in consumption leads to the addiction of alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs. As a result, once a person gets addicted to such substances, it becomes very difficult and almost impossible to get rid of this effect.

Addiction is something that does not fade away easily once a person starts to use the substance often. This addiction remains till the end of his life unless he makes an effort to quit his bad habit. There are several examples of people making an effort to quit this habit but at the same time there are examples of people who once quit such habits but then resume such attitude again.

The treatment of people addicted to drugs and alcohol is a difficult task as the brain gets used to these substances which make it very difficult to get these addictions treated. The treatment in the short run is possible and the individual can accomplish this himself but over time, the addiction begins again. The only long term solution is to get proper treatment from pro treatment centers that are specialized in the treatment of patients addicted to alcohol and drugs.

Therefore the prevention of substance abuse at an early stage is of utmost importance.

As the individual grows, the probability of getting addicted increases, the age after 18 years is the time when peers and family members influence others to get addicted to alcohol and harmful substances.
