CONTEXT
During the early twenty-first century business environment has become increasingly complex as boundaries extend around the globe.
Repatriation is considered to be a very difficult moment of assigning employees internationally in global organisations. When the project closes and the employee back to their organisation and the home culture, often cause high anxiety moments for them (Yeaton & Hall, 2008, p. 75).
Cross-cultural researchers defined expatriate failure as premature return before assignment completion. Ward and Fischer (2009, p. 85) noted that as many as 40% of expatriates failed to complete their four year assignments. When the expatriates were working in an underdeveloped host country, the failure rate rose to almost 70%. According to Martinko & Douglas (2010, p. 265) between 25% and 50% of former expatriates who prematurely left their assignments also left their firms within a year of their return.
The situation becomes worse because most of the organisations do not have the procedures and policies for preparing the expatriates return and they do not understand the importance of repatriation time during the global assignment of the employees. The expatriate employees are an important source for the expertise and knowledge between the international corporations (Tyler, 2006, p. 97). The purpose of this research paper is to focus on the cultural shocks that the expatriates face during repatriation and the problems that they face with the reintegration of the expatriates (Ward and Fischer, 2009, p. 85).
