Introduction

The Abrahamic covenant is of great importance in getting an exposure to bible. God's first recorded dialogue with Abraham is stated in the statement of Genesis 12. In this covenant, God promised Abraham for blessing him with a great nation. In Genesis 15, it is stated clear that God took on his own, the responsibility of fulfilling the agreement. The covenant is based on three components that were agreed between God and Abraham: the blessing of a great nation, the personal blessings of Abraham and the promise of land.

Abrahamic Covenant

The Abrahamic Covenant was an unconditional agreement between God and Abraham. The agreement required nothing from Abraham. The ritual in the Genesis 15 reflected the absolute nature of the agreement. In Genesis 17, God once again blessed Abraham gave him additional promises regarding the blessings to be received by him and his posterity. All of the commitments and covenants offered given to Abraham, combined together, are known as the “Abrahamic covenant.” The covenant was mainly based on three parts:

The guarantee of land in Genesis 12: 1: In this part of the covenant God called Abraham to a land that would be given to Abraham (stated in Genesis 12: 1). This agreement is presented in Genesis 13: 14-18. Its reflections are placed in Genesis 15: 18-21.

The guarantee of the descendants in Genesis 12: 2 is the second part of the Abraham covenant. In this God promised Abraham that a huge nation would be created from Abraham. In the Genesis 17: 6 God stated and promised that the rulers and the nations will move down from the “aged patriarch.”

The last part of the Abrahamic covenant was the promise of blessing and liberation. Abraham and his families would be blessed through him, as God promised in this agreement. In Genesis 28: 14-15 the promise of the agreement is additionally confirmed.

The Abrahamic covenant is considered to be unconditional by many modern evangelicals. The reason is that it still contains ambiguity. This progression of revelation will persist, not just in the Abrahamic Covenant, but all over the complete Old Testament. God is doing it through his people that are gradually exposed. During the whole Old Testament, the curtain is progressively being raised. On the other side, when Abraham once obeyed the commands of God, the agreement ultimately became definite (prophetically). This also reflects to be unconditional as per the perspective of modern evangelicals.
