Introduction

With the ending of the Spanish-American War, the US troops had occupied a number of territories. USA had been known to have an imperialistic image in the context of multiple considerations (U.S Department of State, 2013). This imperialistic image totally depicts the level of authority it has been able to exhert among the different nations in the past. It goes to show that USA till today practices this imperialistic image largely due to the events of the Spanish-American war (Office of the Historian, 2013).

Discussion

America had been characterized by an anti colonial nature and thus this type of anti colonial history has a profound impact on the current image of America. Some of the historians had largely been connecting the aspect of imperialism with racism. Racism has a drastic impact on the American community as a whole and thus it should not have any linkage with the imperialistic aspect (Office of the Historian, 2013).

The United States intead of more being an economic power was characterized by a military power. The events leading upto this war as well as the events that took place in the war greatly shaped America's image as being a highly militarial power. Looking at events unfolding in the contemporary world, it can be asserted with great authority that USA till today is considered as a military power and not being an economic power (U.S Department of State, 2013).

Counting that moment with a navy more powerful than the Spanish, the U.S. would soundly defeat the Spanish rival in battle of Manila Bay, the Philippines, and the Bay of Santiago, Cuba.
