In my opinion, chapter two is comprehensive and covered a wide range of aspects that could have been under the topic. I believe that the paper did include all the different types, forms, components of culture and explained its impact on humans individually and the society as a whole. I agree very strongly with the fact that culture and the cultural practices, similar to religion, cannot be subtracted completely from our lives.
In fact, while reading the text I was realizing that consciously or subconsciously, there are a number of ways I follow, act and represent the culture that I have seen being observed in my surroundings by my family, friends and even my neighborhood. I realized that the language I speak, the clothes I wear and various other most casual practices I exercise daily while paying little attention to them represents the culture I belong to.
Although, there were a number of interesting views presented in the paper. However, the concept that I found the most relevant in terms of the current perception of the culture was the conflicts in culture. In my opinion, the contradictory values are the most frequent reasons behind the arguments and conflicts in the society. In an agreement with the chapter, I find it interesting of how America is regarded as one of the very few countries that allows the freedom to live in a way one fancies. However, issues like “homosexuality” still remains one of the biggest and most frequently discussed controversies. Another important thing I consider as the highlight of the chapter was the mention of cultural diversity and the Ethnocentrism, which in my opinion is the biggest reason of coexistence of multiple cultures within a society.
