Social Problems and Issues in Society

Introduction

Social problems are also considered as the social issues, which affect all types of societies whether they are small, large, open or isolated. The thoughtful element of the term social problem explains “the concept that a particular social condition is becoming dangerous to the society” (Mooney, et. al., 2008). The word social problem represents the issues which affects the number of people living in a society. The number of social issues, which are being faced by the society range from one society to another but the fact is that most of the social problems are predominant in a number of societies. Most of the predominant problems that are faced by the societies involve poverty, discrimination and crime.

These problems are interlinked with the economy of the nation. Some of the economists think that these problems are due to the increasing rate of unemployment in the society and some of them argue that the problems are as a result of inflation. Whatever is the reason, it is directly linked to the economic system of the society. If we take unemployment as a cause of these problems we will find that unemployment leads to decrease in the money supply in the economy. Let us consider an example over here. Suppose the society has just three people living in it. In such condition the total flow of the money in will be dependent on the expenditure of these three people. If one of the people has no money to spend then eventually this means that the other two will be having higher amount of money. This also happens in big economic system. The phenomenon is known as unequal distribution of wealth. If these wealthy people did not invest in the economy it results in lack of aggregate investment which eventually results in increasing rate of unemployment.

Another problem which is predominant in many societies is poverty. The poverty level differs from one society to another. It is the condition in which the people are unable to afford the essentialities of their lives like food, clothing and shelter. As the population is increasing, the cost of living is declining substantially, which results in the results in severe consequences. The people who are quite closer to the line of poverty are getting more conscious about sinking into the situation of poverty. This relates to the decline in the cost of living. The people from lower regions are more likely to face the serious health issues due to unhygienic conditions and criminal activities that occur in order to fulfill their basic needs. This issue is very dangerous and critical and it compels the government to take serious actions.
