The Common Core Standards adopted in 2010 are a set of internationally bench- marked standards that define what a student is to learn at various levels of his educational career. The aim of the standards is to bring all state level education to a certain bench mark that ensures all students have a certain level of skill in the specific disciplines.

Students should not depend on procedures too much.They should be able to comprehendreal life problems coherently, explain conclusions, apply knowledge to practical situations, be able to use technology, retreat for an overview, or diverge from a known method to find a solution. In short, a lack of practicality effectively keeps a student from applying skills to real life situations (Flick, Kuchey, 2010).

The Standards are definedboth for mathematics and English language. They are clear in their emphasis on what students are to learn, meaning the content of the intended curriculum, and not on how that curriculum is to be taught (Porter, et al., 2011).
