Introduction

Different psychologists define personality differently. In general, it can be define as the set of characteristics which are vibrant and different for every individual. Every person has different characteristics which are unique in their own different ways. These characteristics can have an influence on the person's mind, emotions, motivations and their behavior on different situations. The patterns of thoughts in the person, the way they tend to settle socially, their feelings, and the behavior that they display over a span of time is also defined as personality.

The behaviors that are exhibited by the individual personalities can influence the expectation of others, the perceptions and the values and attitudes will be a strong factor for the reactions that will forecast the reactions made towards people, problems and the handling of stress. Psychologists are interested in the researching the different types of personalities and their characteristics and also to differentiate between them.

Personality Characteristics

Personality is controlled and constant. A person tries to respond to certain aspects of his/her personality in different situations and their reaction is usually constant.

Personality is a psychological aspect but at times, the genetic needs of different people and the processes have a great influence on them. An example for this could be that if a person is usually shy but when the need comes in an emergency situation, he/she might need to take charge and become out-spoken.

The behaviors of a person will be derived from the personality. The reaction of the people and the environment are the bases of the personality. The preferences in every personal decision and even choosing the right career will be judged by the personality.

The personality of a person can be seen through the display of thoughts, behaviors and the feelings of the individual.

Methods used by Psychologists to study Personality

The theories and ideas of the psychologists about the human behavior should be backed by proof and data which would show the confirmation of these theories. In order to prove their theories, different psychologists had to design different tests and conduct different theories designed to test the human behavior. All the different tests have different goals in their minds.

A research design is the way a psychologist uses to collect, conduct and analyze a set of data used for the test. There are different research designs used by different psychologists. There are three major types of research designs used for analyzing the different personalities. These are:

Descriptive research: it shows the design of research done which will give an overview of the present situation.

Correlation research: this design is used to determine how the different variables are related to each other. It also predicts the future results by using the knowledge form the present data.
