The narration of the novel is made by the son of an English merchant, Frank Osbaldistone. Brief Description of the Novel
Walter Scott had a great number of admirers in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries (Brown, pp.2). The story of the novel took place at a time when the Scotland was in much confusion. The narrator of the story because of having a fight with his father is sent to another place so as to make him live with his uncle. He fell in love with the niece of his uncle in Northumberland. His uncle name was Hildebrand Osbaldistone. At the place Frank fell in love with the niece of his uncle. Rashleigh who was a cousin of Frank stole the documents that were very important for the economic solvency of the Frank's father. Frank, in order to get the stolen documents back, follows his cousin to Scotland. Several times, he crosses the path of Diana's uncle associate_ Rob Roy. The shift of the action towards the beautiful mountains and valleys around Loch Lemond brings much confusion. The fairness of the British Army was trapped. Rashleigh got killed in the Jacobite Rising, bringing about a bloody end to the life of Rashleigh. This event leads Frank to inherit the property of Sir Hildebrand's, and he marries Diana.
The novel is a violent description of Highland and Lowland Scotland social conditions in the period of 18th century. The novel includes a glossary for the Scottish terminologies.

The novel is a narration by Frank who explains his experiences and adventures of life as a young person. He went to Scotland in order to protect the image of his father and there he fell in love with Diana and became involved with Rob Roy_ a Highlander.
