Role of Military in Post War Reconstruction in Sri Lanka

By

ABSTRACT

The civil war in Sri Lanka lasted officially from 1983 to 2009. The Government of Sri Lanka dominated by the majority Sinhalese Buddhist and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), which is a separatist organization fighting for the establishment of Tamil Eelam, an independent state in the east and the north, which is mostly populated by Tamils ??religious Hindu (18% of the population). The Sri Lankan Civil War lasted 26 years and was primarily an inter-ethnic conflict between the Tamils and the Sinhalese. Throughout the history, this is not a new or novel approach as the British armed forces had developed this technique way back in the 1950's and even the US army had applied this technique in the Vietnam war. After the war, the conditions are usually very bad in Sri Lanka, there has been a lot of damage to the property in the country, and this requires enormous reconstruction efforts.
