Implementation of EHR System

RFI

Introduction

EHR stands for Electronic Health Record which is a comprehensive concept to collect health information of an individual patient. The gathered information is electronically presented with the help of information technology. It is basically a digital formatted concept to share the information across various healthcare settings. The record tends to include demographics, history of medication, and any kind of allergy record, immune status, test records and personal information with current statistics. The system aims to encompass the entire needed information imperative to the gain accurate status of the person. The computerized data feed lessens the chances of repetition of data in the record keeping process. However, it reduces and most of the time removes the hassle of referring to previous data again and again (Prestigiacomo, 2010).

Overview of EHR

EHR is a widespread record keeping of the health information of the patient which could be the outcome of one or more than one engagement with hospital setting. EHR has the capability to streamline the flow of the work of clinical nature. It tends to record every encounter with the healthcare setting. It eventually leads to evidence based practices and reporting of outcomes (Glenn, 2013).

Things to consider

Almost every other organization is turning their firms into paperless working place. The firms are doing maximum utilization of information technology and EHR is the part of this efforts. The government has also shown its ken interest in the transformation of the mode of record keeping. However, there are a few things the active stakeholders must take care of and they are given below:

If you do not have one (Electronic record)-You will soon have to buy one

The stack of papers is not appreciated in highly professional environment. Yet, healthcare is a kind of work setting in which extensive data collection is appreciated and is recorded immensely. Today the physicians themselves favor the electronic feeding of data. The organizations that do not have or do not want to computerize their approaches will have to soon do it (Walker et al., 2005).

The tool to expand healthcare facilities and save the wallet

It is quite facilitating in avoiding the chances of repetition that saves the money of the consumers of both kind; patients and consultants. The tests can be shared in different healthcare setting at a different distant place. The repetition is a big drawback in the field that takes away large chunks of resources.

Incorporation of Portals

With the implementation of EHR there will be proper portals installed at the work stations as to connect the different concerning people and data. The training has to be incurred to achieve the set targets.

Integration of EHR can lead to Issues

The system is not inevitable and purely immune. There can be errors on either side that can cause fatal communication issues. New advanced things can cause new high paced errors that could demand another application to resolve the issues.

Privacy is a Persistent Issue

Computerizing the database does not ensure the privacy and safety ...
