Introduction

The basic aim of this study is to conduct an in depth analysis of nature, causes and signs of racism against Muslim students in US. Evidence of negative opinions towards Muslims in the country has been collected from different surveys, public polls, articles and research studies. The study shows that prejudice in itself is a very complicated issue. The attitude of Americans towards Muslim students is negative due to different and multiple reasons that may be psychological, cultural and political.

After the incident of 9/11 it has become extremely important to analyze and understand the experience of Muslim students in college campuses as authors has suggested a sudden increase in the number of negative incidents creating hostility in the environment of colleges. American Government also undertook and implemented War on Terror initiative which further added to the negative attitudes of American students and resulted in unlimited cases of harassment and discrimination against Muslims and American Muslim students in different college campuses.

The plurality of Americans is the main cause behind their negative views of Muslims. Americans often accuse Muslims of disrespecting their values and religion. Their religion is thought to encourage and promote acts of violence and hatred especially after the incident of 9/11. Many Americans also believe Muslims to be aggressive, intolerant of other religions and views, think low or showing disrespect for modern and educated females. But such negative thoughts negated the true meaning of freedom, justice and equality. Happening of one incident cannot be used as a justification for this negative attitude towards Muslims or generalization of the belief that all Muslims are alike. Prejudice against different minority groups has always remained an important part of their culture which negates their so called ideology of laws and preaching of individualism, freedom. No doubt before the advent of 9/11 the views of Americans about muslims were not as harsh as now before the 9/11 many of the muslims communities were living and earning calmly. Even the American families prove to be very supportive for their neighbours without discriminating on the basis of religion.

Method & Discussion

The research methodology undertaken was exploratory in nature and made use of both quantitative and qualitative data from existing research studies and academic articles. The expected outcomes of the research may prove positive results as the majority of the researches provide with supportive arguments. The purpose of this study is to conduct theoretical analysis of underlying causes and evidence of incidents against Muslim students and their experience in US. The detailed analysis will be helpful in understanding the reasons and increase in frequency of such incidents after the incident of 9/11 so that necessary interventions and corrective measures could be undertaken to provide Muslim students with a better and welcoming environment with equal opportunities in prominent positions on the basis of equality and justice.
