Introduction

USA's military and political difficulties in Afghanistan and Iraq have impelled comparison to the American war of 1960 in Vietnam. How these wars compared in the media perspective? What are the dissimilarity and similarities in media during and after the war? And most of all what information could be gained through examining these wars. In the upcoming research, the critical analysis will examine these questions.

The unfolding events and role of media have prompted some analytical thinkers to make comparisons to the media role in Vietnam War. “In wartime, truth is so precious that she should be attended by a bodyguard of lies" - Winston Churchill. Media is responsible that this situation should not occur. Media plays a vital role in covering and presenting war images and its objectives. Media should cover stories that are bias free and truthful. Sometimes negative reporting portrayed to grab attention of the audience.

Discussion

The research covers the Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq war media comparison. There are four areas that have to be considered while comparing media in war states these includes embedding, quality, freedom of correspondent, and reliability of the coverage. Media is considered to be a watch dog for evaluating government analytically and reporting their actions. In the Vietnam War, American citizens wanted to keep updated. Today they have the opportunity to check out the war via different mediums radio, newspaper, magazines, and most important television. Many families depend upon the coverage of media for information. Voters depend on coverage to keep them update on the war progress. This coverage was often deadly (Arpan, Raney 271).

Being an independent media, they exercised their freedom by capturing and showed photos and film footage of death wounded soldiers helpless citizens in their daily basis in the evening news. Patterson explained it as Steak and potatoes with body counts. Some footage and photos shocked people, but it was the common routine of the evening news (Christen, Kannaovakun, Gunther, 430).

The American media initially seemed enthusiastic cheerleader in all three wars. But when in Vietnam War, the protest increased, and war seemed to have lost way the media perspective changed. At present, in Iraq media is trapped in the hotel rooms. In today's wars, only one aspect is covered with the media. While, in the Vietnam War there was more reporting from others.
