Introduction

Every volunteer project is distinctive in nature as it is created by fundraisers and team work to satisfy a particular need of deprived people. It is a work experience that brings added advantage in the career and develops the feeling of civil duty. Moreover, such activities provide focus and direction that add value in the personal and professional development. Involving in the voluntary placement helps volunteers to develop skills and commitment, in order to efficiently carry out the responsibility of helping others (Volunteer Opportunities, 2010).

CHICKS---'giving hope' is constantly working on its motto to give hope and high-spirited experience to all poor and underprivileged children from all over the UK. It mainly targets those children that live in poverty, going through with violence or have lost parental support. CHICKS.org is a nationwide charity program that offers free respite trips for its target population. More than anything, it offers them opportunity to enjoy every moment of childhood. Agency plans and manages respite breaks for children and meets the standards of its set criteria (www.chicks.org.uk).

It is a volunteering based organization that strives to make every child happy. It looks forward that children recognize the fact that there is someone who really cares for them and someone is there for them as a trusted companion. For CHICKS, every child is important and worth living. Luckily, I got an opportunity to become part of their volunteer team and work for deprived children. It is a worthwhile experience that carries great importance in my life. This paper will report my reflection concerning the voluntary placement with CHICKS.org. Further, it will unfold the framework of the work and critical reflection on personal experiences and concerns relating to the structural arrangement and function of the agency concerned, and the role of unpaid helpers in it (Prouteau and Wolff, 2008).

As a current undergraduate learner in International Relations with Third World Development, I managed and completed a voluntary project with CHICKS.org in the month of July. The project involved taking poor children from all over UK on a respite break to visit Milky Way Camp and Piranha Campsite

A week to remember-- Milky Way Camp (8th - 12th July 2013)

I have been very lucky enough to have had an amazing childhood with a familial support that always show love and care for me. This is something I do not ever want to undervalue as I have experienced directly the children that on CHICKS respite breaks that have not been lucky enough to get the similar start in a lifetime that I acknowledged. It is factual that campsites are very tiring and requires uphill struggle. Every person involved in it puts their heart and spirit into making them an accomplishment and a memorable experience for the ...
