In our lives, we meet people who are extremely difficult to forget as much as one might try while others are hardly remembered at all. When I was in seventh grade, I made friends with a girl named Carol. Carol was my classmate and we soon became inseparable because we both had so much in common. We used to hang out together after school hours and even went out to have a snack once or twice. Carol didn't talk much about her family. She did, however, mention once that she lived with her uncle and aunt and that she didn't like either of them. I never discussed them with her ever again since I knew that it would upset her. The thought that she would leave me also discouraged me to pursue the topic anymore. One day, Carol didn't show up at school and it worried me. Unfortunately, I had never seen her house and this meant that I had no option but to wait until she showed up. However, she didn't show up at school the next day either and I was really beginning to worry.

A week passed and still there was no news of her. The teacher was concerned about her too and asked me if I had any updates on her. She showed up after two weeks. I could see a noticeable change in her. She was quieter than usual and the area beneath her left eye seemed swollen as if someone had hit her. I tried to make conversation with her on order to find out exactly how she got these bruises but she said that she didn't feel like discussing it with anyone.
