Introduction

Progressive social work authors has promoted critical reflection, and defined it as a process for facilitating capacity of practitioners to reflect upon their participation in prevailing power relations. In contrast, the critical literature of social work tends to emphasis on mostly on excluded, oppressed and disadvantaged. Ones who are dominated with respect to sexuality, race, class and gender are usually overlooked. Nowadays, social services and practices become a prevailing need of out society; however, the work or services are often criticized. This is a critical reflection on social services in the US and countries across the world while it is used in a several but different ways.

The question here is that why we are concerned about critical reflection in social work in United States. Several theorist and researchers assert that social workers usually avoid taking stands against government agencies. Despite, researchers suggested that they either accept new delivery of public service management or withdraw to privatization without opposing it. They put emphasis on neither two solutions respond to “social. Thus, it is essential to reflect critically on social services as educators and profession as well, carry out these issues or take an active and passive stance towards them. The process of critical reflection begins with the process of awareness while is not met without a vow to changes for welfare of people.

This is a reflective paper on social work, both on my own past experience to improve and enhance the social activities of the company where I work. This paper helps in moving the company and me as a social worker towards strategic philanthropic activity, which will make social work more efficient. Here, the goal is to gain and improve understanding and practice of social work in terms of leadership to attain the common good among diverse ethnicities.

Social work and People at Disadvantage

Alfreda, Iglehart, Rosina and Becerra (2011) have noted that the demand for social services in relation to ethnicity has augmented in the 21st century and expected to grow in the US. Since, Unite States is a country of different ethnic groups, the issues of injustice, biases and discrimination is relatively high, which necessitate providers of social service to address needs of ethnic minorities and offer them with increased right to be heard, visibility and support within their communities. Evolving social work focuses on cultural competency and ethnic sensitivity was significantly influenced by 1960s and 1970s movements of civil rights. Eurocentric and heteropatriarchal biases along with the deficit oriented point of view in social work education and practice of social work was challenge for a more comprehensive point of reference. This challenge guides the council in adopting good standards for addressing issue of people of color, racism and race.
