Overview of the Article

The aim of this research article is to make its readers understand the experiences of filial therapy process, by parents. This research has been carried out by using systematic approach. For this research, interpersonal processes and background of multiple relationships are focused. For the purpose of exploring the experiences of parents about the process of filial therapy, author has utilized a systematic lens. Filial therapy is an approach of treatment that is used to teach parents how to carry out activities of playing with their children at home, for the purpose of improving the relationship with their children.

Main Points of the Article and Applicability to Practice

In this article, the author has used qualitative approach. So, the main points for this article include the responses that the researcher has collected from the research participants. The article provides preliminary facts that filial therapy can serve as a mean for bringing change of second-order, in families. In addition, article also suggests that as it is able to bring change in families so, filial therapy can have widespread general implications. The article recommends that there is possibility of improving the effectiveness of this approach by making more than one parent to take part in it. This article also provides increased awareness of power issues that arise in relational functioning. This research article is different from previous researches on filial therapy as this article explores the intersection of parenting and power. The research article describes that for parents, taking part in filial therapy provokes changes in dynamics of power, in multiple relations such as parent-parent relation and parent-child relation.
