Racial issues in local community

Introduction

In this world, there several nations with distinct states. Each state is then further divided into cities or towns. The people who reside in these cities share a common culture. The culture involves the kind of food eaten or preferred to be eaten, the clothing used, the language spoken and understood, the religion followed; and the distinct traditions, customs, and rituals followed. A culture is a set of values, which is commonly held among the people belonging to a specific area. A culture is a learned human behavior (http://anthro.palomar.edu). According to Kramsch (2003), culture refers to the debate on the concept of nature and nurture. It requires answering an important query that whether the humans are identified according to the characteristics inherent in them by birth, or they are identified by the characteristics that they latter develop after socializing with the people around them. This is an important aspect as it helps to determine the effectiveness of social learning in making the image and identity of a person. It is also important as it helps to determine the impact of social learning upon the behavior of a person.

Background of Puerto Rican community

Puerto Rica is a state having people from different identities. It is the smallest territory located in the eastern parts of USA and compromises of people from different cultural backgrounds. From the past century, the people of Puerto Rica are found to be influenced by the political, economic and social influence from the USA. They have the right to travel to states in USA as they are officially US citizens (Morris, 1995). This makes my community, to be free to travel to other states of USA and explore the culture there.

The culture, which prevails in my community, is a complex of many cultures. My community has influence of different cultures due to the influence of people from different cultural backgrounds that came to the region centuries ago. These included people from different regions of the world including Asia, Taíno (India), Middle East, West Indian/Caribbean Spain, and also Other Europe, Africa, and North America. As these people hailed the region, they left their influence on the civilians residing in the region. Some came as a tourist while some moved in permanently to become local citizens. Hence, the culture, which prevails in my local community, is a blend of different cultures from around the world.

Due to the differences in ethnicities of the people who came to settle in my native country, different people can be seen to make up Puerto Rica. The Tynos who came to settle in the continent centuries ago had a bronze colored complexion with dark eyes. On the converse, the Europeans who settled were very fair in complexion.
