Introduction

This paper intends to review poems for a publisher who wants to publish a book worldwide. The three poems I have selected for the purpose of reviewing are 'Jabberwocky' by Lewis Carroll, 'To An Athlete Dying Young' by A. E. Housman and 'Ulysses' by Alfred Lord Tennyson. The purpose of this paper is to review these poems from the literary viewpoint. This paper will make the readers aware about the various underlying facts related to these poems.

Jabberwocky

Jabberwocky is assumed to have several nonsense rhymes and the most important fact in this aspect relates to the aspect that this is not the actual reason for which this poem is loved immensely. This poem possesses the character of making up words in such a manner that provides the reader an opportunity to laugh. The poem was published in 1855 in a comic magazine. It basically revolves around the story of a boy who is extremely fascinated. The boy explored forests for the purpose of finding various pigs that have been separated from their homes. Despite of being warned by his father about Jabberwocky and other dangerous creatures, boy witnessed a beast and somehow killed it (Shmoop, 2010 Pp. 15-30).

The boy imagined himself as a hero while returning home because he possessed the head of Jabberwocky in his hands. It is important to realize that the poem was given a humorous touch by the creation of words in such a manner which reminds the reader about a typical fairytale. Author is somehow blamed about writing this poem in the most nonsense manner for the purpose of enlarging or inspiring the usual style of poem writing. Carroll played with language in the most annoying manner. Several strange words have been invented by Carroll to relate to the poem. Aspects have not been clearly organized within the poem.

The poem remains extremely important and became popular because it contained several nonsensical words and the structure of the words was consistent with the English poetry perfectly. The poem can be classified as a ballad because it is depicting a story. The structure of sentences is accurate and the rhyme is a regular cross rhyme. Further, the poem is based over seven stanzas.
