Organizational Analysis: Imperial County Behavioral Health Services

Introduction

In this paper, I will be evaluating an organization for its management and operational purposes. The evaluation be based on a human service organization. The analysis of the organization will focus on theoretical understanding of macro theories and implementation of those theories on the organizational structure and functionalities. We will consider the local culture and external environmental influences on the functions, along with the in depth analysis of management and efficiency of the employees. The paper will include analytical perspective from different aspects, highlighting the positive attributes currently prevalent in the organization, and providing productive criticism and recommendation for better commencement of the business (ICBHS, 2010). For this purpose, I have selected Imperial County Behavioral Health Services. The company helps individuals suffering from psychological strains and rehabilitates their emotional distress. In the following sections, we will critically analyze the organizational constraints and their association with theoretical concepts.

Organization Description: Organization Mission and Goals

Imperial County Behavioral Health Services, dedicated to providing professional services that respect individuality and cultural diversity. The agency offers a nonjudgmental environment, provides services which promote dignity and self-empowerment for people on their journey of rehabilitation and continue to be in recovery (Kettner, 2002). By providing independence and community integration, the recovering person builds the support of family peers, also with the community. This agency promotes and assists persons who suffer with mental illness by helping individuals experience some relief from emotional distress. This agency also assists individuals in reaching set goals for a happier life.

Vision Statement

Imperial County Behavioral Health Services' vision statement: To be the “Gold Standard” in community based mental health and substance abuse treatment.

Mission Statement

Imperial County Behavioral Health Services provides quality professional services to achieve independence and community integration for individuals suffering from mental illness or substance abuse (ICBHS, 2010).

Objectives of the organization perfectly match with the established mission to achieve independence and integration of the community in the development and rehabilitation of mentally disturbed individuals. The responsibility of the agency would be to follow through with the agency's mission and vision statements. These two statements advocate for the client, and the agency represented by the community (ICBHS, 2010). The community elects the Board of Supervisors who work closely with Mike Horn, the director, and are aware of the need to render services to the mentally ill. The Board of Supervisors along with Mike Horn is, in fact, following through the two statements of the agency (Kettner, 2002). There are mentally ill individuals who have received services to achieve their independence and are present in the community. To become “Gold Standard” is to be aware of the community needs, is an area where there are mentally ill persons, and infested with drugs.

Organizational Structure

Structure of an organization refers to the allocation of organizational tasks and, supervision and coordination among employees which all are directed towards the achievement of organizational goals. Structure of an organization depends upon its objectives as the entire structure is shaped in accordance with the targeted goals (Kettner, 2002).
