There is a crucial importance of a good lay out in the operational management. The good layout of the plant is one that is well organized and structured. It should provided enough place for the workers of the plant as well as for the machines and other equipment in order to facilitate proper functioning in order to maintain the smooth flow of a production process. The arrangement of machines is crucial in the plant layout. It should be arranged in appropriate way in order to reduce the material handling cost. Moreover, the efficiency of the operations can be enhanced by arranging the materials as well as semi finished goods in a proper way. In addition to it, adequate first aid boxes and other safety equipments should be provided to the worker in order to make them ensure about their safety and security, this induces them to provide their maximum potential in return. There are some common grounds in the overall operations of the supermarkets and the factory layouts. Super markets as well as the factory layouts both initially focus at low volume. The supermarkets focus son the stock jobbing with the wide range of products. In the same way, the factories layout also emphasize on jobbing the large amount of products in the stock.

The supermarkets focus on high variety and volume of the batches. In the same way, the factory layout focuses on expanding its operations with high variety and volume. In addition to it, the supermarkets usually focus in having the moderate volume of the products in the batch in order to avoid any risk of damages as well as to be prepared for timely delivery. In the same way, factory layout does not support very high volume product batches due to risk of the product damages.
