Introduction

The novel Northanger Abbey, or Susan, as Jane Austen called it first emerged in the years 1797-1803. Northanger Abbey was the first novel, Jane Austen has sold, but at the same time (together with Persuasion), and it was the last to be published. It was published posthumously in four volumes in 1818 along with Persuasion, the first time, with biographical notes on the author at Muray, London.
