Introduction Motivation provides individuals with a purpose and incentive to perform an action. There are two types of motivation that include intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic motivation involves a sense of awareness and satisfaction that is inherent in the task. Intrinsic motivation is present within an individual. Extrinsic motivation involves the presence of different motivators including rewards or punishments. The examples of extrinsic motivators involve money, appreciation, and reprimand.

This paper aims to discuss the motivational plan for school and its components.

Importance of Motivation in Schools

Motivation plays an important role in schools. The success of a school depends on the motivation of staff and students. Schools need motivation plans in order to motivate the staff and students. The decreasing level of students' motivation in schools is an important concern of both teachers and school administration. It is because students' motivation is directly related to their achievements and successes in the future. For the purpose of increasing the motivation level of students, schools need to develop a motivational plan.

According to the self-determination theory of motivation, the level of independence of individuals depends on their autonomy, competence, and relatedness. Autonomy involves the groundwork for the actions of individuals. Competence is defined as the need to achieve desired results. Relatedness is the sense of association with others. When the self-motivation desires of individuals are fulfilled, they become determined and committed to their work. In other words, when individuals experience that their work is contributing towards the output, they would become motivated. Therefore, it is essential to fulfill the needs of students before motivating them. Autonomy and competence must be the most important part of school motivational plan.

In order to promote learning, the school environment and curriculum must be designed to motivate students. The classroom environment must be challenging to promote learning and development of students. The challenges must involve both academics and physical (Theobald, 2006).

Rewards and Punishments

The motivation plan for my school would focus on the challenges confronted by both teachers and students. School education must not be limited to attaining classes, doing homework, and achieving results. In fact, teachers must provide students with different challenging tasks that motivate them.
