Meiji Restoration modernized Japan

Introduction

The leader at that time Shogun was forced to surrender his power. The powers authoritatively were in hands of Emperor Mutsuhito and his period of influence is called the Meiji. It was not late when Japan westernized and quickly went to work crafting a constitution. There were a number of reasons that Meiji restoration took place. The Japanese were of the belief that they were way far behind the other countries of the world. All the leaders that participated in the Meiji restoration acted in order to restore the imperial rule so as to strengthen their country against the major threats that were posed by the powerful colonial countries of that era. The fast modernization and westernization of Japan is said to be the Meiji Restoration. There were many Japanese scholars and politicians who were sent to analyze, learn and study the Western structure and technologies in the Northern part of America and Europe, whereas on the other hand, the Westerners asked Japan to facilitate the development of new industries (Hunt et al, pp 712-730).

Meiji revolt also known as the Meiji Restoration is stated as one of the significant events in the modernization of Japanese olden times. The Meiji rebellion deeply affected several actions of the Japanese history along with the relationship of Japan outside the country. Through the germs for the refurbishment fermented in the final ruling days of Tokugawa Shogunate, the Restoration in Japan eventually burst out bringing transformation which tainted the temperament of the Japanese population everlastingly. Japan at present is a country that is convinced not only within their homeland but was also equipped to encounter all across the globe; a nation distinctive amongst the Asian in this modern-day that was eager and apparently proficient enough to face the whole world as a country equally dexterous with the rest of the world.

Tokugawa for over more than two centuries ruled Japan; the clan secured all the power and dominance all over Japan. It was with the entrance of Commodore Perry, Kurobune along with other barbarians in the year 1850 that the opposition against Edo was aroused. Followers of the policy of sonno joi was worship the royal leader and deter towards the barbarians, could clearly see the inability of Shogun so as to remove the warriors as cause and increase the prospect towards refurbishing the prominence of Kyoto's once more. Particularly enraged with Shogun's indecision by giving permission to the warriors surrounded by the gateway were shishi, also known as the barbarians of strength. These annoyed men were a division of the samurai inside the domain of the clans. These people were not only aggressive but were also willing to use any force that can help them in achieving their target (Jansen, pp. 308-366).

Thesis Statement

If not for the major political, social, and economic reforms brought about by the Meiji Restoration, Japan would not have been able to establish itself as a world power in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
