The overall premises of this case discuss the problems that are being faced by a family. Even when one reads the case study it is pretty evident that the overall lack of communication that prevails among the family is not really helping their cause. Due to their own personal demons, the family is not really communicating with each other. Another very interesting thing that can be seen from the case study is that all these individuals are battling their own personal issues, father is apprehensive about his past and thus his past is still coming to haunt him. Mother has literally isolated herself from all the issues due to the lack of support that she is getting, while on the other hand, son feels that he is being neglected.
Social Construction
Living In Rural Area Und Own House Isolated, Lower/Middle Class
One of the more important things that one has to do while analyzing the whole case is the place of living of the family. Whole family is living in the environment which is not really conductive to the healthy household. The social isolation is the most basic cause for the ailments that the whole family is facing at the moment. Especially when one looks at the problems Jean is facing, most of the problems that she is facing are arising due to the evident lack of support she is receiving because of the isolated environment in which they are living. As per Marxism, they are not able to control the environment which surrounds them (Wenger & Burholt, 2004, p.128).
Family structure
Nuclear family
This family is a nuclear family. Nuclear family is the one in which there is one family unit that is taking care of themselves. Now if we look at the way things are shaped up in nuclear family structure. It can be seen that they have only one offspring. Brian is only child they have, and they have not been able to take care of him due to their own personal issues. If they would have been living in more of a unconventional family environment, Brian must have been most benefited as he was in the need of the support system. They were living in isolation didn't really helped the matters either (Wenger & Burholt, 2004, p.128). Thus we can see the shortcoming of the nuclear family system when we analyze their case history.
Jean Was Main Carer of Son
Jean is the seen as the main carer of her son. The problem arisis due to the fact that mental health of Jean is not really up to the mark. She has not been treated rather well by her husband, and though there is no evidence of physical violence on the part of her husband. But due to the uneasy relationship that she shares with her spouse, she is not really attentive towards her son (Bengtson, 2001, p.16). But the good thing is that she is realizing and waking up ...
