Abstract

This paper is based on the case of Mrs. Jenny, who was diagnosed urine infection and she was referred to a gynaecologist. Unfortunately, her case became complicated, and she has to suffer a lot. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the case of Mrs. Jenny that what were the real facts that made her life vulnerable. Furthermore, this paper will also examine the findings of two research paper tilted as “Wound Infection in Gynaecologic Surgery” by Kamat, A. A., Brancazio, L., & Gibson, and “Wound infections after hysterectomy: opportunities for practice Improvement” by Taylor G, Herrick T, and Mah M, as these research papers are relevant to the case of Mrs. Jenny and investigate the causes of infections in gynaecologic surgery and practices for the solution of the problem.

A Review of the Search Strategy Employed For the Formative Work and a Review of Two Articles Identified From the Search

Introduction

In this research paper the case of Mrs. Jenny is discussed. She is 58 years old woman. She is usually fit and well, she lives with her husband and 35 year old son. She has a daughter (aged 38) who recently married and left home but as they are a closely knit family, she frequently visits. Jenny keeps the accounts and does the paper work for her husband who is an electrician, working from an office in the family home. Mrs. Jenny was diagnosed urine infection and she was referred to a gynaecologist. At her appointment she was diagnosed with prolapsed of her womb and was advised that a hysterectomy will be the best course of her treatment. She admitted to a nearest hospital and the operation appears to go well. She was discharged from hospital and returns back to her home. She was advised to rest as well as to avoid heavy lifting for 6 to 8 weeks.

After her discharge she noticed that her wound is very sore and red. When her consultant observes her wounded he decided to re-open this. A swab was taken to recognize the reason of the infection. This swab points out that the wound is infected with MRSA, which has likely been contracted from the hospital in her stay. Jenny was very distressed at the thought of return to hospital and was angry that she appeared to have picked up an infection at the same time as she was there. At her discharge, Jenny was advised that as she has had a repeat operation she will required to rest more than normal following a hysterectomy, as her wound will be unstable.
