Engineering and technology management is of worth importance in today's world. Theory and practice in this field have progressed rapidly in the last fifty years, and sufficient matter including research work has been done and collected on this topic which can provide this field its separate entity. Present research work in this field can be used as a tool to promote on going research work, and valuable data can be extracted from them to make under progress research work more valuable and useful.The ability to study existing research work by comparing and relating existing information in the subject of engineering and technology management is of worth importance as we begin to analyze the format, language, and construction of existing research studies, and blends the ideas into a new body of research.

Discussion

For the analysis of current research work in the discipline of management of engineering and technology, five articles are selected, and characterized as basic or applied research, key features of the articles are discussed, why are these features necessary for the field of management of engineering and technology, and what are the lessons obtained from these articles.

Difference between Applied and Basic Research

Basic (or fundamental) research is made to increase knowledge or to explore the fundamental basis of any particular topic while applied research is done to answer real world questions or solve problems based on these foundations. Conclusions that are extracted from applied research are based on the actual investigation of the subject, while basic research comes from the direct knowledge or data obtained from various individuals working in the field. In applied research, researchers can also use the data form fundamental research to answer real world situations.
