Loss and Grief

The feelings that arise as a result of some sort of loss and grief incur as a result of loosing someone or something closer or most valued. It can result due to the death of someone special or loved one or end of a closer bond such as loss of job, sickness, illness, loss of passion or goal of life. Both loss and grief are part and parcel of life.

Grief

Grief is commonly an individual's response to loss in life. These feelings have a significant tendency to affect one's thought process, behavior, feelings, and bonds. The severity of grief can sometimes be treated or combated with the help of a doctor, or counselor.

Bereavement

Bereavement also refers to the feelings associated to the state of loss or grief. The severe reactions due to bereavement could be seen from 10% to 15% of people. The examples of bereavement cold be death of a child, spouse, parent, relative, suicidal attempts etc. It is also referred to as the period of mourn. The main word id derived from a German word to rob or to seize.

Uncomplicated Bereavement

This concept is referred to as the usual normal response to a major loss in life. The durability of this reaction of individual relies on the extent to which the news of grief or loss was sudden, age, bond with the subject, physical condition of the subject that has passed away. The normal feelings of grief vanish away within a period of one year. The most serious reactions are witnessed within the period of first two months. Some of the common signs of aforementioned type of grief are shock, confusion, sadness, numbness, and depression (Zissok and Shchter, 1993).
